As we age, our bodies begin to degrade. Most people start to notice joint pain. But fear not, we have a solution!
I want you to think about your body’s frame: the skeleton. Lots of bones all hooked together, right? If it weren’t for your muscles and tendons, your skeleton would fall to the floor as a pile of calcium and ligaments!
Every muscle in your body has a portion made of connective tissue (known as the muscle’s tendon) that crosses the joint. For example, the quadriceps muscles in your legs have tendons running from the muscle belly that start above the knee! This incredible set up is what allows you to move.
But when you have pain during movement, you avoid moving. This is one of the worst remedies – as it will only cause your pain to get worse and your body to continue to deteriorate!
What YOU can do for your joint pain:
To aid in taking the unnecessary pressure and strain on your joints, it is essential that you strengthen the surrounding muscles. As the muscles get stronger, you should notice your pain begin to subside and your mobility increase.
Losing excess weight is one of the best things that you can do if you are experiencing joint pain. Even just a few pounds will take much more stress off of your joints.
Don’t have excess weight to lose and still experiencing joint pain? Strengthen those joints with muscle training and exercise!
This can be kind of scary when you’re experiencing pain. You don’t want to overdo it, and it’s hard to tell whether you are overdoing it or not when you’re already experiencing pain before you exercise. That’s why Alpine Physical Therapy is here to help!
