Keyne Monson

Keyne Monson Started his weight loss journey in May 2020. He’s lost 70 pounds!

Whoa…wait…what??

Yup, that’s right! In just six months, Keyne went from 250 pounds down to 180 pounds. How in the world did he do that?

Keyne Monson’s Story

Keyne Monson has always made an effort to exercise but as his job required him to travel more over the years, his weight slowly crept up. In May 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic cancelled his travelling for work, shifting his schedule to be at home. With this new dynamic in his life, he decided to make weight loss his priority while he was ground.  He has been coming to the Alpine Fitness gym almost every day since, and his discipline and hard work has paid off!

How Keyne Did It

How he motivates himself: he sets challenging goals, tracks and measures his progress, cuts sugars and snacks, and doesn’t eat after 7 p.m. Keyne does cardio six days per week and muscle strength training three times per week.

Goals Are Important

When Keyne set his goals, he made long-term goals and short term goals. Keyne stresses that you can’t achieve the big goal without making the small goals to get you there. It’s very important to celebrate small successes to keep you motivated.

Keyne recommends making reasonable goals as well, so that you progress at a pace that is right for you. It’s important to set goals that you feel you can achieve for yourself – not for someone else or someone you look up to. Setting goals that are right for you will increase your chances in staying focused. It will also increase your chances for success in getting to your final destination.

Taking Action

Keyne prefers cardio – he loves to run, bike, and step on the stairmaster. Keyne does his cardio six times per week.

He also stresses the importance of strength training as well. He makes the time to perform strength-building exercises three times a week. Keyne likes to work his muscles on the leg press, the bench press, and the bicep curl.

He also gets support from Alpine Fitness’ personal trainers, coming in three times per week for 40 minutes per training session. To find out more about our Best of State training, click here.

Don’t Forget the Music!

Keyne also motivates himself by listening to his favorite music when he works out. He loves to listen to tunes with a nice beat, including: classic rock, Eddie Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith. Music is a great motivator to keep you going strong. It helps you put in your full effort during your workouts, which will help you burn more calories and feel more satisfied when you’re finished.

Fun Fact: Keyne has been to every baseball stadium in the U.S.A.!!! You can’t get more American than that! Needless to say…Keyne has a great love for baseball!

Keyne’s Advice

Keyne recommends you set challenging goals – along with reachable, weekly goals to keep up your motivation. Keyne says it’s very important to measure your progress to help keep you stay focused on your goal and to remember what you want to achieve.

Most importantly, he advises us to be patient and enjoy the journey. Every person’s progress will be different and we have to make an allowance for that. It can be daunting to be at the beginning of the journey, looking at our end goal. It’s important to be patient and set those smaller, weekly goals, keep disciplined, and keep distractions at bay – always having the end goal in our view!

Keyne Monson is truly an inspiration and an example to all of us: with persistence, discipline, and hard work, we can achieve every health and fitness goal we want to achieve as long as we are patient with ourselves and keep our eyes on the finish line!

Happy exercising!
