Winter can be hard. Right?
It doesn’t have to be. Here are some simple ways to make your winter more exciting and break the monotony:
1. Play in the Backyard to Make Your Winter More Exciting!
What?? It sounds so simple but figuring out what to do back there can be hard – and if you don’t find the right thing to do it can be BORING. Here’s an easy list to refer to when you venture outdoors on your pad:
- Make snow angels.
- Build a snowman, or better yet, a snowman village.
- Make a snow fort.
- If it’s below 30 degrees, buy some bubbles and blow them outside. You’ll make your own bubble crystals.
- Make “snow cookies”: bring cookie cutters outside with you and cut some shapes.
- Make animal snow sculptures – and if you wanna have even more fun, buy some cheap kid watercolors and paint them.
- Have a good ol’ fashioned snowball fight!
- Get some sticks and draw pictures in the snow. Snow is the perfect canvas – and if you have any leftover kid paint, you can use that too and let your inner artist shine!
- Take some cups or pots outside with you in different sizes and make a snow castle or village.
- Build Snow trenches and have a nerf war with your family or friends.
- Have a bonfire or barbecue! Roasting hotdogs or marshmallows doesn’t have to be limited to summer or camping. Bonfires create a lot of heat and in the winter you don’t have to worry about setting your neighbor’s yard on fire! Have some serious fun all year round! (Moneycrashers.com).
But doesn’t this sound like kid stuff??
Well, who says you have to be an adult ALL the time? It’s important for us to get out of our comfort box once-in-a-while and do something weird. And no, you don’t need to have a kid with you to do these things – go ahead and let your neighbors stare!
2. Still Don’t Wanna Play in the Snow but want a more exciting winter?
There are other ways to make your winter more exciting and still be indoors. The first thing that always comes to mind is the gym, right? There’s a lot more to do than just that. Here are some ideas:
- Declutter and deep clean your house
- Learn to cook a new dish – there’s a lot of tutorials and recipes online. Better yet, make something fancy and have a candlelight dinner with your family or friends.
- Take the “gym” thing to the next level – start a weight loss challenge with your family or friends. If it’s possible, you can plan a vacation as a reward after the challenge.
- Don’t forget swimming! There are usually a few indoor water parks and lap pools nearby.
- Try a new workout online – think outside the box and do something you’re not used to doing, like salsa dancing or boot camp. (Verywellfamily.com)
3. Do A Family/Friend Photo Shoot
As ugly and dreary as winter may seem, going for a drive in the nearby country can give you some beautiful scenery – especially after a big snowstorm (after the roads have been cleared, of course). Doing a little photo shoot while your out in the country will help you bond with your family or friends and create timeless memories to enjoy for years (Verywellfamily.com).
…And if you still have some energy after the photo shoot, play some flag football! Some of my favorite childhood memories was playing football in the snow with the family. Heck, I think I’ll round up some friends and family and go this Saturday!
4. Shovel snow off the sidewalk for your neighbors
Just be careful of straining your back!
Yeah- I know, I know – this doesn’t sound fun at all! But it’s important to score some brownie points with your neighbors and it feels good to give a little once in a while. As old-fashioned as it may seem in our busy world today, being neighborly has even more meaning now. Your neighbors will never forget your kindness and you might be even lucky enough to receive some fresh, out-of-the-oven brownies from them!
Shoveling snow is also some serious exercise! It’s one of the few exercises that gets you sweating and heaving as quick as stair stepping or climbing a steep hill! Shoveling snow is pretty strenuous – just be sure to keep proper form and don’t overdo it! (Verywellfamily.com)
5. Don’t Forget the Sledding!
Yeah, you may not be five years old anymore but you can still find a good hill and sled! Once you numb up to the cold a bit, you will be having so much fun you won’t feel like an adult anymore. Nothing will make your winter more exciting faster than a good sledding!
It’s been proven that it’s therapeutic for adults to play (Moneycrashers.com). Just take one day every two weeks or even once a month to get out and have some fun like a kid!
Just remember… you’re never too old to have fun – all year round!
So grab a ball, grab your friends or your fur baby and get outside and have some fun! Making your winter more exciting couldn’t be easier! Never dread winter again! If you make the effort to have fun in the winter time – like you do when the weather is warm – you’ll look forward to winter every year!
